Q: Amplified vs. non-amplified antennas

Also, if you are in an area of high interference (e.g., buildings, hills, mountains, or trees between you and the broadcast towers), you may need an attic-mount or outdoor antenna. Q: The local towers are not in a line-of-sight to my antenna. What should I do?

When we talk about antennas, “line of sight” has been mentioned many times. This only means that, ideally, there is a straight line between the TV antenna and the tower receiving the signal. The goal of practical application is to obtain the smoothest path to the broadcasting tower as far as possible, so as to obtain a better signal. You may need to elevate and/or move your antenna. Make certain the antenna is not aimed at physical obstacles such as a roof, building, or trees. Also, you should determine what type of antenna you need based on the terrain around your home, your location in relation to the local broadcast towers, and what channels are available in your area. Q: How do I know which antennas are High Definition antennas and which ones are analog TV antennas?

Many customers have the same question as you. Well, it is a common misconception that only certain antennas are capable of receiving HDTV. The truth is that HD signals are broadcast on the same VHF and UHF frequencies that have been used since the beginning of broadcast TV. All antennas have the ability to receive HD Broadcast, just be sure to pick one that covers the frequency range (VHF or UHF) that is being used in your area.

Q: Where is the best place to mount my antenna? Can I purchase a TV antenna and install it in my attic?

Many customers have asked us about the best place to mount their antenna. Some customers may want to install the antenna in their attic to avoid exposure to bad weather outdoors. By far, the most critical factor for TV antenna placement is height. For outdoor TV antennas, the best locations are on your roof or garage. And yes, you can definitely install the antenna in the attic, if your attic is accessible, and you don't have a radiant heat barrier or metal roof. Then you can also try installing an outdoor TV antenna within your attic. However, your roofing material may weaken the signal strength. Attic installations are sometimes a viable option, however, can lead to many signal issues. The majority of the time and outdoor installation is recommended. Check if the signal level is good enough for most of the channels before you install it in your attic. You may expect the signal to be approximately 8-12% weaker than if installed outside.
